This tree is an excellent ornamental tree with the added benefit of edible fruit in the autumn and winter months! We just love the flaky orange bark and the lush leaves all year round. It is ideally suited for a small garden and an excellent kid-friendly tree due to the smooth bark and safe fruits to eat. Prune it every two years will produce an abundance of fruit and a lush canopy.
This tree is ideally suited for the Cape conditions with the strong winds and coastal sea spray as it is very tolerant of these conditions as well as clay or sandy soils. It is considered invasive in tropical regions, so best to only plant it in the Western Cape.
