Evergreen | Exotic | Slow Growing Speed | Average Coastal Tolerance | No Wind Tolerance
The tree is particularly valued for its edible seed, considered by many to be one of the most delicious seeds in the world!
It is rather slow growing and prefers a more tropical climate, so we recommend buying a mature specimen and planting it in a sunny yet sheltered part of your garden (it does not like strong winds).
The integrifolia species is more commonly used for commercial crop production, therefore the tetraphylla are often grown in home orchards. The higher sugar content of tetraphylla is preferred by some, especially for eating raw. The tree can produce crops for about 40 - 50 years and can fruit for up to 100 years!
