Trees SA – Large Indigenous & Exotic Trees in South Africa

Dovyalis affra

Semi-deciduous | Indigenous | Slow Growing Speed | Excellent Coastal Tolerance | Excellent Wind Tolerance

The security hedge you've been looking for!

The word "Dovyalis" is Greek and means spear, which refers to the numerous little thorns of this tough little tree! It is excellent to plant in windy coastal towns as it can take the salt-laden winds. It is drought-resistant once established and the edible fruit is also loved by birds (and humans)! The fruit is rich in Vitamin C.

If you don't want to plant it as a hedge, it can also make a stunning bonsai specimen tree in a container on a patio.

This hardy tree is ideal for the harsh Cape conditions.
