Trees SA – Large Indigenous & Exotic Trees in South Africa

Cordyline australis purpurea

Evergreen | Exotic | Slow Growing Speed | Excellent Coastal Tolerance | Excellent Wind Tolerance

Few trees are as undemanding and tolerant as the New Zealand Cabbage. Growing in conditions of -5 to 40 degrees Celsius, in salt-laden winds and poor soil conditions, this striking ornamental is a collectors dream! They are a great substitute for palms and have even been cultivated to grow in the harsh conditions of Scotland! So this is an excellent tree for our Cape coastal gardens! Can be grown in a pot as well or use it as a windbreak / hedge. Doesn't get very big, so ideal for the smaller gardens as well. Get that dash of colour in your garden with the striking purple leaves.
