Trees SA – Large Indigenous & Exotic Trees in South Africa

With an uninterrupted view of the Atlantic Ocean as well as mountain views of Lion’s Head and the 12 Apostles, one can understand why Nettleton Road in Clifton is classified as the most expensive street in South Africa. What makes this street so special is that it creates its own microclimate where the properties (and trees) enjoy wind-free days as the sun sets over the ocean.

We were thrilled to be chosen by South African publishing tycoon and art dealer, Mr Dennis Hotz, to plant a range of mature trees on his corner plot on Nettleton road in 2016. Even more so when he chose our special Coral tree (Erythrina lysistemon) to welcome his guests at the entrance to this modern new property.

With its unique low branching trunk and magnificent crown, this tree was adored by many who visited our nursery during the years. It is therefore only fitting that this beautiful giant should deserve a new home which boasts unsurpassed sea views. The striking red flowers are beautifully complimented by the indigo blue of the Atlantic behind it.

Navigating this giant through the busy streets of Clifton at the start of the December holiday season posed quite a challenge. The key is in the preparation of the tree before the time. First we had to carefully lift and place the tree on the truck, taking into consideration the offloading position at the site. Then we pruned off some of the branches to ensure we don’t hit anything on the way to the site. Then off we go via the N2, over Kloofnek road, and finally into Clifton where we carefully offloaded and planted the tree.

Along with the special Coral tree, we also planted the following at Dennis Hotz’ home:

  • 1 x 10m high London Plane tree (Platanus acerifolia)
  • 1 x 8m high Pride-of-India (Lagerstroemia indica)
  • 1 x 6m high Cork Oak (Quercus suber)
  • 12 x Silverbirches (Betula pendula)
  • 5 x Fruiting olive trees (Olea europaea)
  • 1 x 6m Date Palm (Phoenix reclinata)

With our value added tree monitoring service, we can ensure that the trees are taken care of by recommending watering adjustments to ensure that they will one day flourish and become independent from artificial watering
