At Trees South Africa, we believe that people are just as important as the trees we grow. Our team is at the heart of what we do, so we’d love for you to get to know them a little better. Today, we’re introducing Suzanne — here’s a quick Q&A so you can see the person behind the role.
1. What is your role at Trees South Africa?
I’m the expert horticulturist, my biggest role at Trees South Africa is to advise and train staff and clients on everything trees. My team makes sure that the trees we grow are healthy, happy and well balance when the move to a new home outside of the nursery.
2. What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love helping people and leaving them with knowledge they can keep for a lifetime.
3. What’s your favourite tree?
I have so many it is difficult to choose. Currently I would say it is between a flowering peach tree and the Tulip Magnolia for the spring flowers.
4. Do you have a favourite season at the nursery?
Not really, but if I have to choose it would be between love Spring for the new life and the blossoms and Autumn just because of the rich colours.
5. What’s one thing clients might be surprised to learn about you?
I’m allergic to plants.
6. What advice would you give someone choosing a tree?
You are choosing a new member of your family, so you need to choose a tree that speaks to you. Also what you choose needs to be suitable to the conditions in your garden

Tea
8. Favourite hobby outside of work?
I have many, but my top three is gardening, sowing and baking.
9. If you could be any tree, which one would you be?
Taxodium distichum (Swamp Cypress) or Prunus armeniaca (Apricot)
10. What’s the best part about being part of the Trees South Africa team?
Firstly that we are able to make a big change in peoples lives by greening the environment. Secondly that we can help families leave a legacy for the future by planting multi-generational trees in the area that they live.
