A word from the Mayor…
“Mossel Bay’s beautiful beaches and cleanliness have led to it often being referred to as the “Karoo by the sea.”
I come from the Karoo and love the sometimes-arid landscape.
However, Mossel bay is the gateway to the world-renowned Garden Route and this Council is committed to serving as the guardians of our environment.
We will do our very best to grow our Green Footprint and are aware that this may be impacted with by the massive development currently taking place in Mossel Bay due to it being the top semi-gration destination in SA.
We have developed a new Tree Planting policy to address this impact and protect our “Karoo by the Sea”, our “Gateway to the Garden Root”.
The Tree Planting Policy sets the criteria with a list of preferred endemic trees to be planted by the Municipality.
We also urge residents to plant these trees on public open spaces with a streamlined application process. Currently we are busy planting 2000 trees, and the aim is to plant 10 000 over our five year term.”
